Molly-May Mammoth, a beloved character in Edmonton, has captured the hearts of her community throughout her various adventures. The excitement surrounding her presence reflects the deep appreciation the locals have for this remarkable installation. Initially created for the Byzantine festival in 2022, Molly-May stands as a striking intersection of art and winter festivities.
Crafted over 1.5 months, she measures 10 feet tall, 18 feet long, and 5 feet wide, making her an impressive sight. Transporting such a substantial sculpture from COLAB to Borden Park posed unique challenges; The adventure on skis was a unique experience, especially with the roads blanketed in ice .as She expertly navigated the bike lanes, locals paused their activities, captivated by the sight of a mammoth gracefully skiing through the city. Their smiles reflected the unexpected joy of seeing such a lively scene in the chilly weather.
After her debut at the festival, Molly-May returned to downtown Edmonton for a gallery showing titled "GABS And The Mammoth Lights," also at COLAB. Her journey continued as she captivated audiences at the Royal Alberta Museum for two years.
Molly-May Mammoth's latest adventure took her through Edmonton's vibrant streets. She started at the downtown skate park, effortlessly gliding on her giant penny board among skateboarders and BMX riders. The park's excitement set a lively tone for her day. Next, she visited the Edmonton Public Library, captivated by its striking architecture and bustling atmosphere. The sense of community deepened her connection to the city. At the city hall water park, children splashed joyfully in the fountains, and the joyful laughter reminded her of life's simple pleasures. Molly-May then explored the Winspear Centre.
Finally, her journey led her to City Centre Mall, where she found her new home. After a day filled with exploration, the bustling mall provided a perfect spot to settle in. The warm reception from shoppers and visitors solidified her status as a beloved fixture in Edmonton. Molly-May Mammoth’s ongoing adventure not only showcased the city's highlights but also emphasized the strong sense of community that makes Edmonton unique.
